PHRASAL VERBS
Os phrasal verbs são verbos compostos por um verbo e uma preposição ou um advérbio.
O significado do verbo original muda completamente de acordo com a palavra que o segue.
Ex: Look (olhar)
Look over (verificar) - Look after (tomar conta, cuidar) - Look into (investigar)
Os phrasal verbs são exclusivos do inglês, sendo mutio usados no dia-a-dia dos falantes nativos e expressam certa informalidade.
São infinitas combinações, existindo até dicionários apenas de phrasal verbs.
Não se preocupe em aprender todos de uma vez. Iremos listar os mais usados. Se você dominar
a maioria, já estará ótimo para este contato inicial.
Ask out = convidar alguém para sair. I'll ask her out.
Break up = terminar um relacionamento, separar. They were fighting a lot and they broke up.
Call off = cancelar um compromisso. I have to work on Friday. Let's call off the meeting.
Calm down = acalmar-se. The storm is gone. Calm down!
Cheer up = animar, alegrar. I'll help to clean the mess. Cheer up.
Do over = fazer de novo, repetir. That was fun. Let's do it over.
Figure out = solucionar, entender. Did you figure out the math problem?
Fill out = preencher (ficha, formulário). Please, fill out this form.
Get along = se dar bem com alguém. You and your brother get along.
Get back = voltar. She'll get back on Sunday.
Get in = entrar. Mary got in the car.
Get out = sair. I don't want to talk to you. Get out!
Get over = melhorar, restabelecer-se. I was really sick, but I got over.
Get up = levantar, acordar. What time do you get up?
Give back = devolver. Hey, give my book back,
Give up = desistir. This is very difficult for me. I give up.
Grow up = crescer, tornar-se adulto. I think Mark needs to grow up.
Hand in = entregar (trabalho da escola). Hi class, please hand in the homework.
Hand out = distribuir. The teacher handed out the exams.
Keep out = impedir a entrada. This is a private building. Keep out!

Look after = cuidar, tomar conta. I'm going to the supermarket. Please, look after your sister,

Look into = investigar. The detective looks into the case.
Look out = tomar cuidado. There's a thief coming. Look out!
Pick up = pegar, levantar. They picked up their baggage.
Put away = guardar. Please, put your ipod away.
Put off = adiar, cancelar. Let's put off the exam.
Put on = vestir. Wait a minute, I'll put on my clothes.
Stand up = levantar-se. Hey Tom, stand up!
Shut up = calar a boca. You always say terrible things. Shut up!
Sit down = sentar. Now you can sit down.
Take Off = tirar (roupa) / levantar voo. It's too hot, take off your blouse.
Take over = assumir, tomar o controle. The captain took over the ship.
Throw away = jogar fora. We need to throw away our old credit cards.
Throw up = vomitar. I'm dizzy, I think I'll throw up.
Turn down = recusar / abaixar (volume, intensidade) This music is too loud. Turn it down.
Turn off = desligar. It's time to turn off the TV.
Turn on = ligar um aparelho / excitar alguém. Let's turn on the radio.
Turn up = aparecer, vir a tona / aumentar (volume, intensidade)They turned up when the party was over.
